What if delusion exists on a spectrum between reality and psychosis? Every person and probably most animals exist somewhere on that spectrum meaning that no subject is able to perceive reality 100% accurately 100% of the time and no subject is able to perceive reality incorrectly 100% of the time.
This is where it gets scary. What if psychotic delusion is not an inability to perceive reality accurately but an overwhelming ability to perceive reality correctly? What if psychotic people’s perception of reality, before becoming psychotic, is more accurate than normal people’s understanding of reality? What if reality, accurately perceived, is so unbearable that any rational person would automatically become delusional as a reaction-formation in order to be able to go on living?
We all want to thrive, which involves health in regard to mind, body and spirit. So, what if wellness only exists in a state of ignorance? In that case, there is a catch 22 because we can only be healthy to the extent that our ego defenses delude us, which is considered unhealthy.
